When I saw the ornament image from the Stampin’ Up! Great Joy stamp set I knew I just needed to color it.  I love the Blackberry Bliss and Old Olive combination so I knew that is what I wanted my ornament to be colored.

I love heat embossing and then coloring images, but you can’t heat embossing then color when using Stampin’ Blends, you don’t get a great image when coloring with alcohol markers.  So I decided to pull out my Stamparatus and create a way to get the same look.  I started with “no-line stamping’ by stamping the ornament in Smoky Slate ink.  I left the image in the Stamparatus without moving it to color it so I could stamp it again when I was done.

Below is a complete video on my coloring of the image.  It has no voiceover instruction, only music.

After coloring, I made sure I covered the image with a good covering of the Embossing Buddy.  This is one of the most important parts.  I then re-stamped the image again with VersaMark Ink and added Gold Embossing Powder.

I then decided at the last minute to paint Wink of Stella Glitter Brush on just the ornament (not the bow or the leaves).  It really makes the image POP!!

I mounted the image simply on Gold Foil Sheets & Blackberry Bliss cardstock.  I did use the border die from the Bouncing Baby Framelits as an accent in both Old Olive & Gold Foil.  The top panel of Blackberry Bliss is embossed with the Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder.  I wanted the colored image to the main feature of this Christmas card.

Coloring Video

When I color I like to use at least 3 shades for each color and I start with the lightest, move to darkest, then the middle color or colors.  When the image is wet, it will blend better, but it will also bleed – so use caution.  Sometimes I’ll move on to a new section to color if I think the area I’m working might bleed, but I also always have my Color Lifter available to “push” any color that bleeds back to where it came from – you’ll see me do this a few times.
